Hail Ride

Better late than never...but last week on my morning commute into work things were going smoothly and the weather was a lovely 60 degrees and sunny.  I did not expect to come across about a quarter mile of ...in the middle of my trail.
Needless to say I was not alone in my shock and about 3 other bikers had to traverse this sketchy terrain along with me. Great news is I met a few other riders, laughed a little and managed to keep upright.  All around win.  :) Have a great week everybody and thank you for being such rockstars out there- you motivate me to squeeze into my spandex with this ever-expanding belly. :)

Bike Share Programs

Shocking news!  Bike sharing programs do NOT increase cyclist fatality rates.  In it's first year, New York's City Bikes have logged 8.75 million trips for a total of 14.7 million miles with 100 reported accidents, 25 trips to the ER, and no fatalities.

Way to go CityBikes!

Woman Power!

Little Bellas!!!
What an absolutely amazing day to be a woman cyclist!  Yesterday I participated in my very first Beti Bike Bash sponsored by Yeti Beti.  This 5th annual MTB race was held at Bear Creek Lake Park and it was by far, one of the most fun and most inspirational events I have ever attended!  An entire day was dedicated to promoting women's cycling with a fantastic race course, lots of 'characters' supporting everyone, mingling with some of the top professional MTB women, and my personal favorite, cheering on the Little Bellas as they put on their fierce racing faces and competed against dozens of other girls for a 1-3 lap race.  The atmosphere was just as spectacular as the weather with so many amazing women coaching, encouraging and congratulating each other all day long! It really was a celebration of women's cycling and I'm so glad I was able to be part of it and to share this wonderful day with some other TCL Commuters, Carrie and Jenn!  Women cyclists rule!!  :-)

Little things

One thing I love about bike commuting is moving more slowly through less traveled spaces to see little things. Like this chalk graffiti. It says, "if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything." Plus flowers!
